Day 9 - Muslim Experience - 🌏 MWT 2017

Tuesday September 5th, 2017
Hiked 3.1 miles

6:56 am

A very clean, new, and trendy hostel lobby.
Just thirty minutes ago I woke up and left my room so the other guest can sleep. I only met one, James, briefly.  He was in his 20's and rode down from Bangkok on his moped. He was excited to know where the beach was at. It is incredibly humid and warm here.  I am watching two mosquitos trying to bite my ankles and am glad I am wearing long pants. Last night I was awoken at 10 pm by a muslim prayer.  It is quite startling to hear such booming from a deep sleep. At 4 am I heard a torrential downpour beating the metal roof.  I woke up and tried to look outside to see if my shoes were still there. The patio was covered but it was raining very hard.  I woke up again at 5am for another very loud prayer on the loudspeaker. I am trying to figure out where it is coming from and I can not see it.  From the sounds of it I would have thought it was right outside my window.
Lots of trash on the beach in the morning.

How silly it must be to own an iron here.  I took this silk shirt out of my bag this morning and it was wrinkled beyond dignity. I put it on and came outside and you would have thought I pressed it for ten minutes.  Every wrinkle is gone.

3:22 pm

I am waiting for my plane to Seoul to board.  This morning the night shift clerk was right on time.  He pulled up just before 9 am as he said. He took my sheets, my keys, and I got in the back seat.  I thought he might like to practice his english. "So you ever been to the US?", I ask.
"Yes" he replies.  "That's cool, which part did you visit?", I say.

Very confident cat
That was all that was said the entire drive.  He was probably tired.  The music he played was pretty hip, and he took great pride in his car which looked as clean as any Uber I ever saw. He even had a functional drivers side air bag.  I have noticed twice in my van rides that the steering wheel was replaced with a metal one I remember seeing on Amazon.

He gave me change for my last 1000 usable bhat bill and I
headed into the local departures.  The domestic terminal is much more relaxed.  I got a subway sandwich.  There were only two options and the other was a dried noodle bar.  Right by the gate to board they have a little shop that sells about every sort of snack you could want.  I got a Chang beer, with the elephants kissing on the label, and some Mentos. It is strange to drink beer while waiting at your gate.

This is perfectly legal in Thailand.

I wanted to see the beach before I left,
It smelled like the overflowing outhouse nearby.

Notice that the dogs go where they want,
they pay no attention to us.

I tried to call the stray dog, but it didn't even look at me.

The news papers read much differently than ours. There is
no mention of forensics, or evidence.

An Aussie meets his fate.

They don't want the migrant workers to leave.

Many places had shrines like this outside,
They were quite complex with all the figurines.

Flying over Hong Kong at night.

My favorite pocketknife finally got confiscated leaving Thailand.
It glowed in the dark too.
